Great BBQ

This past weekend was a weekend of BBQ, texas style. Growing up on the east coast, all the BBQ is pork. Here in texas its all Beef! One of the several things that i had to switch and get used to. Well monday night Maddie and Kyle took us to this great place called 'Hard Eights BBQ'. It is in Copell near Fellowship church...it was so fun! You get your meat like market style and walk down a line to get your sides. It was really good...i advise you to try it at least once. Budget for it though its like $15 a person. :) www.hardeightsbbq.com

Ready to start my life together with Andrew! hahaha :) YIPEE!!! Wondeirn if yall could give me some advice about weddings....something i need to remember or be warned about! Cause i am on cloud nine! :)

Lead me to the cross

Sometimes youth ministry can get routine. Repeating the same thing each week, planning the same events. Stuck in an office with certain times to fulfill. God has been challenging my thinking of what does ministry look like outside of 'church' for youth. So i went on amazon and found some really great sounding books, the first one i am reading is "Presence- Centered Youth Ministry, guiding students into spiritual formation" by Mike King. The reason i picked it was the subtitle. Guiding students into spiritual formation. There is nothing i can do, plan or make that will cause students to grasp what only God can reveal to them. If we get caught up in trying to plan and emotionally drive them to God its not truth. " The call to follow this is true God is not safe or convenient, unlike much of the feel-good, carefree god-think being modeled to our young people today. The presence of Jesus Christ in the lives of adolescents who are nurtured by the power of Scripture is

Valentines Day

Image
I was curious as to where Valentines day came from and this is what i found. There are varying opinions as to the origin of Valentine's Day. Some experts state that i t originated from St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity. He died on February 14, 269 A.D., the same day that had been devoted to love lotteries. Legend also says that St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer's daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it "From Your Valentine". Other aspects of the story say that Saint Valentine served as a priest at the temple during the reign of Emperor Claudius. Claudius then had Valentine jailed for defying him. In 496 A.D. Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honour St. Valentine. Gradually, February 14 became the date for exchanging love messages and St. Valentine became the patron saint of lovers. The date was marked by sending poems and simple gifts such as flowers. There was often a social gathering or a ba

Invitations

I am having a little difficulty with ordering my invitations. I feel like i am being very picky. The invitation sets the mood for the wedding and the way people view us. Most of my family and friends don't know Andrew at all and have never seen a pic. We are doing a picture invitation so they can see us. So then i am challenged with the question, do you make it total classic pose, faces showing and everyone smiling...or the 'artsy' natural moment capture, where you might not be able to see both of our faces if either. I love the way the later looks, but is that the best. Then ordering on line is a beating cause you pay before you see a proof. augh! i am usually laid back...but i am learning there are some things that i wouldn't think bother me...get me nervous. : ) I think the fact that i HAVE to have them by the end of this month is freaking me out too. i know it will get done..its just the first step of actually doing it. A friend helped me the other night looking a

Super Bowl

Fun times..the Steelers win 2009! Our youth group did a party....it turned out fun! I think we had 70 students show up. Kyle grilled burgers and dogs, we had a WII tennis tournament...i lost in the first round, first game :( still love that game though! Ping pong was played by many. Queso, chips, dip and chocolate was consumed and many commericals that were not that impressive. 3D! Now we have to buy glasses to watch tv...what is the deal?? :)
