educational

The other day i was bouncing around all my blogs i check up and stopped at the Surf Rider Foundation that talked about our water cycle, what it was and now is. Got me concerned and wanting to take some action. So step one i am sharing this with you. click on the link below if you have a few min to check it out. S urfrider Water Process Video Step two, i really want to get a rain bucket. To capture the rain and use that water to water the grass and flowers instead of the water from the house. Step three, make a composte pile. Not sure if its legal in my neighborhood, but i want to do research on this and find out what i could do to make it better. I am not a hippy or trying to be all trendy....i have always been a huge recyler, but this kind of hit me as i need to be a bit more responsible with the land and water God has given me. Maybe it will cause you to think to and then you share it and in turn that causes more people to become aware and we make change happen!

Drills

Image
So the past few wednesdays i have been blessed to 'tutor' 1st graders with reading. Its so easy and it goes by so quick. My husband teaches middle school and has stories galore about the craziness of them and their families. Somethings could be prevented and most is just cause people need Jesus and need to seek after him. Yesterday as we were tutoring they had an 'extreme weather drill'. where everyone calmly goes out in the hall, turn toward the wall sit on their knees and bend over like a ball with their hands on the back of their heads. one teacher said its easier to keep learning with a broken hand than head so keep your hands over the back of your head. The only drills i remember are the fire drills, where you go outside and stand in a line and pretend to watch your school burn down. I have never lived anywhere that they drill for earthquakes or extreme weather...have you? What drills did you do as a yungen?

We are Home!!

Image
So glad to say we are home! Had a BLAST!! So many things to share...don't know where to begin...the sign above is at the entrance of our cabin, it was so far into the mountain, we had two cattle gates to open every time we came or left. It was a quaint little house that held 6 people tightly..so us 4 really had fun. We had our friends with their little girl stay one night, they live in colorado. Andrew and i got to go skiing two days in a row. My muscles hurt so bad...i did snowboarding...it was a fun time! Andrew loved it, on the second day we went with Dustin and Ben, they are crazy good...so i did 3 lifts and thats it. On the way home the storm was horrible, so we got stuck in New Mexico. We were rerouted there. We got a hotel, took a tram up to the top of the mountain and enjoyed being stuck. It was a great week with our great friends. We are so thankful for all that was planned and all that wasn't planned...God provided!

Spring Break

So spring break started for our students on friday! Andrew got half day with the students and the rest was a big meeting. We hung out with his parents and kyle on friday and saturday after noon i took some girls ice skating, which was a nice preparation for me since we are leaving today to go to Hideaway CO!! :) We are going with our friends The Jones's. They are letting us tagalong on their free cabin stay out in the hills of colorado. Andrew and i gonna try and get two days of skiing in...we are excited. We celebrated both Mr. Jones and Lil Jones's birthdays yesterday with all their families. Mrs. Jones's family is my texas family so it was SO nice to be with them again! My blog will be a little light this week...but i shall fill you in all after with some great pic hopefully and video...hopefully not of me falling :) Have a super spring break!!!

Slow cooker Recipe #2

Simple and true, this is one of our faves! I cooked it last night...its so simple and you just leave it and forget about it! I recommend this to anyone! I love how chicken is so soft in a slow cooker...my fave! Served with mash potatoes, corn bread muffins and broccoli. (you can do what you like :)) Southwestern Chicken 2 cans (15-1/4 oz each) whole kernel corn, drained 1 can (15 oz) black beans, rinsed and drained 1 jar (16 oz) chunky salsa, divided 6 boneless skinless chicken breast halves 1 cup (4 oz) shredded cheddar cheese in a 3 qt slow cooker, combine the corn, black beans and 1/2 cup salsa . Top with chicken, pour remaining salsa over chicken. Cover and cook on high 3-4 hrs or until meat juices run clear. Sprinkle the cheese; cover until cheese is melted about 5 mins

Simply Fine Chirp

Andrew and i have been married for 11 months this month. One of the fun and frustrating things for us last year was registering for gifts. Target was a cinch go in the store they give you a gun and you scan what you see. Crate and Barrel was super easy on line. I picked anything i liked, and they led me down the rabbit hole to things i never knew i wanted and now that i have them LOVE THEM! There was one crazy one, bed bath and beyond. Its a great store, but the registry person is like a woman on crack. Andrew put it, 'she really likes her job'. He was not at shaken by her exuberance and shovyness, but it annoyed me. We had not really planned on registering for Fine China. That is something we felt was unimportant and didn't want people to pay for it. But as she pushed us thru the catalogue i saw something that caught my eye. I got excited cause i was like maybe this will shut her up! We had already fought the fight to not get crystal, i mean i am a klutz and i really don&#

My hero!

Image
Sandra Bullock! She won an OSCAR!! Her humble attitude makes it all the more exciting! Her hard work for many years, and her love for her job has led her here! Its fun to see her so excited and thankful! I thought it was funny to watch her husband Jessie in the back ground as she got interviewed...he just seemed like he was a bit out of place...but not at all upset he was there. You know when you do something for some one out of your comfort zone...it was sweet to see. I am putting some clips of her...if you want watch them they aren't long. Last night andrew and i were watching all the entertainment shows (flipping between ET, access hollywood and Extra) watching as they ask her so many silly questions...one time something was asked and her response made andrew and i laugh out loud! I am drawing a blank at this moment..but she is so down to earth! Love it!

Boyz II Men now

Image
How many of you know Boyz II Men? They were the love songsters of my time. The cd that you bought and listened too at the beach, pool, in the car, it always but you in a great mood. I remember in college a friend of mine did Karoake at a 'Cafe' Night', with some of his friends, they sang their song "I'll Make Love to You" and he added 'once we are married', or 'after we say i do' after every time they sang that line...it was so funny. Well i just found a cd of theirs that they released back in November 2009, of covers. Songs like "i can't make you love me' by Bonnie Rait, 'Amazed' Tim McGraw, 'Iris' by the googoo dolls etc. It is sooo good! Their harmony and voices are just so smooth and soothing. If you ever liked any of their stuff at least take a look at it on iTunes. Its pretty great! :)

Prayer Coach

Image
Our adult team has been reading thru the book of Job and now the book Pray Coach. Its a nice practical little read that helps you take the next step to deepening your prayer time with Jesus. One of my favorite parts is the author said that when his boys were in middle and high school, they prayed thru the armor of God for each other in the car on the way to school. Another thing he said that they would pray thru was the fruit of the spirit for each other, each morning. It was a nice visual and plan for me, and when i ride with andrew to work we do that sometimes. Sometimes we are so tired we just are in awe of the sunrise and quietly ride. I liked the pattern and purpose. It was tangible and equips you to be more christlike. That is just one of the many practical discussion and advice given in this book, Check it out!

sore ears...

Our DNow weekend was simply amazing! We had three great nights of worship, on fun filled saturday and loads of teaching that just sits in your heart and you wonder what God will do with it in you! The speaker was a man who KNEW the word, like he was cross referencing, referring too and quoting all sorts of passages. We got a chance to sit with him and he shared his 'reading strategy'. He started with the thought of tithing his time and 10% of 24 hours is 2.4 so her rounds up to 2.5 hours a day spent reading. He shared how he reads thru the bible in a year 6 times. He reads one translation thru 3 times, gets another translation and reads thru it 3 times...etc. He uses scrap-booking pens cause they don't bleed thru, and uses a different one for each time thru. He uses a fourth color for any word study he is doing thru the whole bible. Its just incredible how after 13 years of doing this HE KNOWS THE WORD. He was sharing stories and connections made thru out the bible the were
